Every Day You Have a Choice

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Voice for God speaks clearly through the Course In Miracles.  The Voice also speaks to us, every one of us, if we choose to listen.  Call it conscience, the little voice within, God, angels, or the Holy Spirit.  I hear the Voice sometimes in the music on the radio, on cable, and on the internet.

Rarely do I hear whole songs that echo the Voice’s message of choosing Love, Forgiveness, and Peace.  But there is a Danish singer, Jane Meldgaard, with a jazz song called “Every Day You Have A Choice”:

“You say that you’re excused for what you did and what you said.
When other people act the way they do,
You have no choice but lose your head
And you’re the victim of a world that isn’t fair,
But you never say you’re sorry for the times you didn’t care.

You say that you have tried so hard to do what they expect
And all you ever gained from that
Was lack of love and no respect;
And you’re the victim of a game that makes no sense
But you never say you’re sorry for your living through defense.

Every day you have a choice
Between one or another voice
And every choice you make creates your life.
What you choose is up to you
Because no one else decides what’s true
And no one can be blamed for forcing you to draw the knife.

You say that when you listen to the voices in your head
You only hear a messy kind of noise,
And you’re confused of what is said,
But you’re the victim of your own unconscious mind,
If you never really listen to the silent voice behind.

Every day you have a choice
Between one or another voice,
And every choice you make creates your life.
And what you choose is up to you
Because no one else decides what’s true
And no one can be blamed for forcing you to draw the knife.

The voices in your head were never who you really are
But only what they’re fooling you to be.
The silent voice behind the noise is living in your heart,
Waiting in the sacred silent room to set you free.

Every day you have a choice,
Between one or another voice
And every choice you make creates your life.
What you choose is up to you
Because no one else decides what’s true,
And no one can be blamed for forcing you to draw the knife.”

[Jane Meldgaard – “Everyday You Have a Choice”]

There is the Ego voice inside that speaks of guilt, of fear, or of anger.  The one that talks about who is at fault.  Listen to that one very long and you see what you get: that is what the world outside of our self is like… it came from our collective choices.  We can choose peace, love, and forgiveness regardless of what others may do or not do.

Jane acknowledges that the world seems very real, yet yesterday is gone and has no real effect except what we choose.  She suggests music and dancing as a way to stop the judging that creates the illusion that others are evil and not our brothers or sisters.  Besides it can be fun!

“Fear seems real on Planet Earth.
Ain’t easy to embrace
Shining souls forgotten about their home
And about their grace,
Judging themselves with unkindness.
As if forgiveness was not the solution,
Judging each other with hardness,
As if apartness it wasn’t an illusion.

Why don’t you dance a little?
Why don’t you sing a little song?
Why don’t you just laugh a little?
It feels so good, it can’t be wrong.
Words like these are what you wish to say,
But minds like that would think, “Loser’s chat” ,
And walk away.
No, they wouldn’t stay.
They wouldn’t play,

But then at least you can fly.
You can offer this old world a dance with the sky
And then you can try
To release all the starlight that shines in your own eye.

So why don’t you dance a little?
Why don’t you sing a little song?
Why don’t you just laugh a little?
It feels so good, it can’t be wrong.
Why don’t you dance?”

[Jane Meldgaard – Why Don’t You Dance?”

Jane is an artist that believes in her music.  This is what she says on her website:

“During the last 10 years I have had this strong feeling of being led and nudged to get my songs out to a bigger public and at the same time I gradually became conscious of having a team-work with the spiritual world – both in the process of writing the songs as well as in the process of producing my albums.

It is my impression that my songs owns a very strong desire in themselves to be spread and listened to all over the planet in order to help the healing and uplifting of the minds and bodies of mankind. I believe that music and lyrics possess a very powerful energy which effects the listener on a deep level, and I believe that the time has come where people on Earth are open minded and ready for music with wisdom, joy and intense healing-potential, that you can listen to on every occasion and every day. For enjoyment, relaxation and dancing. Thus I am happy to contribute with songs that are touching the divine part of the listener and lifting and refining the energy around us.”  – Jane Meldgaard.

I hope you have enjoyed this artist and can appreciate that she is consciously listening for that positive spiritual inner voice and allowing us to hear it set to music.

I love hearing from the Voice – and hope that you do too.  Enjoy this website and all of the music I have found so far!

If you have found a song that you think is worthy of being included, please let me know at rkresha@gmail.com.  These two songs are freely available on the internet at Jane’s site: http://janemeldgaard.com.  You can find her two albums there, where these came from.  You can also find her Heart Choice album on iTunes, including a beautiful tune called Angel of Light, her song to her guardian angel (The Voice).

God Is Love

I think that perhaps there are more songs written about love than any other topic.  If you do hear the Voice For God, it must be spoken with Love because that is what God is.  That doesn’t mean that our ego won’t mess it up though, regularly.  The voice for separation likes Love, too, but not all the time.   If we think about it, though, we really wish our love would last forever.   If you are in our right mind, you will hear the Voice For God talking about Love in allegory form:

“As the music at the banquet,
As the wine for the meal,
As the firelight in the night,
So are you to me.

As the ruby in the setting,
As the fruit upon the tree,
As the wind blows over the plains,
So are you to me.”

That was Lucinda Drayton of Bliss and her song, “So Are You To Me”.

The world seems to be going through some insane times and the Voice has a hard time getting through directly.  There is evidence that many artists are hearing the Voice and singing about it:

“This world’s gone crazy and it’s hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today,
Believe it anyway.

You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons,
In a moment they can choose to walk away,
Love ‘em anyway.

God is great, but sometimes life ain’t good.
When I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should,
But I do it anyway,
Yeah, I do it anyway yeah.”

That was Lauren Alaina doing Martina McBride’s beautiful anthem, “Anyway”.

Sometimes we just have to ignore the world and do the right thing anyway.

It isn’t always easy to Love in this world, when in reality it is the easiest thing to do when we see people the way they really are.  You just have to get past the confusion, the Voice say.  Home is where the heart is… and home is where the love is:

“Confusion never stops:
Closing walls and ticking clocks,
Come back and take you home ,
I could not stop that you now know.

Singin’, come out upon my seas,
Curse missed opportunitie.s
Am I, a part of the cure,
Or am I part of the disease?

Singin’, yoooooooooooo ohhhhhh
Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh
Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh
Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh

Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh
Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh

Oh nothing else compares,
Oh nothing else compares,
And nothing else compares ….

Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh ,
Yooooooooooooo ohhhhhh ,

Home, home, where I wanted to go.
Home, home, where I wanted to go.”

Who knew it was a song about God wanting to bring us home?  That is Coldplay with “Clocks”.  It sometimes seems like we are marking time, wanting to go Home and forget the madness that separated us in the first place.

If God were human, He might tell us that we have no idea how much He loves us…

“You don’t know what it’s like,
Baby, you don’t know what it’s like
To love anybody, t o love somebody
The way I love you.”

To “Love Somebody” by the BeeGees, who heard the voice, but thought it was about a girl.  It’s also about how God feels about us.

Yes, this world is insane.  Heaven is behind the veil, which we put up so that we could pretend God isn’t there.  Thank God that in eternity, he can outwait us and cannot un-love us, His beloved child!

“Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
Don’t be ashamed to cry
Let me see you through
‘Cause I’ve seen the dark side too

When the night falls on you
You don’t know what to do
Nothin’ you confess, could make me love you less

I’ll stand by you, I’ll stand by you
Won’t let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you.”

That was Pia Toscano on American Idol doing a Pretenders’ song. “I’ll Stand By You.”  Thank God!  Thank God for all the wonderful musicians who keep channeling the Voice For God, so that it will help us remember the perfect Love that is waiting for us when we all get back home!

These beautiful songs can all be downloaded in their entirety on iTunes, Amazon, Wal-Mart, whichever is your favorite source of music.

One Of Us

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Many of us struggle with our “relationship” with God.  We realize that we are a part of God, yet we are confronted with many others who are also a part of God.  Some of them don’t seem to be much fun.

On this blog-podcast, we search for songs that seem to be from the Voice For God.  It is in some ways like the theme from the old TV program Joan of Arcadia.  Joan hears the Voice For God speaking through other, seemingly random people.  She doesn’t realize that The Voice is speaking to us all of the time, often through others.

The singer, Joan Osborne is hearing the Voice and wondered about it in the theme for that show…

“Oh, one of these nights,

And About 12 o’clock,

This whole earth is gonna reel and rock,

Saints will tremble and cry for pain

For the Lord’s gonna come in his heaven airplane.

“If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with Him in all His glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

And yeah, yeah, God is great
Yeah, yeah, God is good
yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make his way home?

Joan, God is home.  It is us trying to get there.  We forget that we are already there, but, right now we have so many questions that we are tempted to ask God:
If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see, if seeing meant
That you would have to believe in things like heaven
And in Jesus and the saints, and all the prophets?

And yeah, yeah, God is great
Yeah, yeah, God is good
yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make his way home?”

The Holy Spirit doesn’t miss a chance to talk to us; we just have to be listening.  We might not have to believe in heaven, Jesus, the saints, or all the prophets, but we might first start believing in ourselves and each other, looking for God in all whom we meet, especially the hard ones.  The outer voice is very loud, but the still small voice inside must be listened for.

Therein lies the challenge and why I am grateful for singers and songwriters like Joan who hear and then write it down for all of us!

Cyndi Lauper was listening one day and wrote this wonderful song, “True Colors” sung here by Phil Collins:

“You with the sad eyes,
Don’t be discouraged.
Oh I realize
It’s hard to take courage
In a world full of people.
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small.

But I see your true colors
Shining through.
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you.
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow.

Show me a smile then,
Don’t be unhappy.

Can’t remember when I last saw you laughing.
If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear,
You call me up
Because you know I’ll be there.

But I see your true colors
Shining through.
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you.
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow.”

God sees us as we are: beautiful!

According to many physicists, at our core, the atomic level, we are truly beings of light and energy.  Some of us have learned to remove the blocks to Love and are able to glimpse this Loving Light that we are all made of.  Next time you hear “True Colors”, remember that we are all made of divine colors.  That is who we truly are.  The music will help you remember.

Thanks to iTunes and Amazon, Joan Osborne, and Cyndi Lauper  you can download any of the wonderful songs mentioned on this blog, so that you can be reminded in a fun what Who You Really Are!

True American Idol

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

We are always on the outlook for the next person to believe in, the next American Idol. He or she doesn’t have to be an American either, but if you listen carefully, you can hear the True American Idol – the Holy Spirit!

Its easy to love just one person, especially if they love you back. It is more difficult to love a whole lot of people, especially once you get to know them and spend a lot of time with them. We always comes back to perfect love that the Voice for God asks us to aspire to:

Listen to this excerpt from Pia Toscano, on American Idol, where the Voice tells us how much we are loved:

“When you were a young boy,
Did you have a puppy?
It always followed you around?
Well, I’m gonna be as faithful as that puppy,
No, I’ll never let you down.
Cause it goes on and on like a river flows
It gets bigger, baby, Heaven knows,
And it gets sweeter, baby, as it grows.
Do I love you? My, oh my!
Yeah – river deep, mountain high, yeah, yeah.
If I lost you would I cry?
Oh, how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby.
I love you baby like a flower loves the spring,
And I love you, baby, oh, like a robin loves to sing.
And I love you baby, like a schoolboy loves his bag.
And I love you, baby river deep, mountain high.”

Isn’t it fun when the Voice chooses such physical representations of love so that we can relate? The song was first recorded by Ike & Tina Turner and written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich. If the voice can shine through a group of folks like that, you can hear the voice pretty much anywhere, if you set your ears to hear it.

Sometimes the Voice for Love is just little snippets to remind us that the search for love is not only in some other people, but in all people. The Voice for God never gives up and can be found in all of time and all of space, no exceptions. Here is a little piece of a song sung by James Durbin, also on American Idol, “I’ll Be There For You”:

“I’ll be there for you:
These five words I swear to you.
When you breathe, I want to be the air for you:
I’ll be there for you.
I ‘d live and die for you,
Steal the sun from the sky for you.
Words can’t say what a love can do,
I’ll be there for you.”

Written by Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi, the song is really about a human relationship breaking up, but you can still hear the promise that God loves us always, a love we hope we can mirror to the ones we love.  Really we should love everybody on the planet equally, but we gotta start somewhere!

Good luck in your listening for the Voice – it is usually in the songs that bring tears to your eyes or give you  the chills. It may not be all of it either.

As always, these tunes were legally downloaded from iTunes – and I invite you to do the same, as these songs will help you in your journey in life.

The F**kin’ Perfect Grenade

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

There is a saying: “Judge not, lest you be judged.”

Sometimes, I am tempted to think that The Voice is hard to find. In some cases, maybe, if you look “in all the wrong places,” that may appear to be true. How about the explicit lyrics of today? How about a song called “F**kin’ Perfect”? Is the Voice there?

You might be surprised. Heck, I was. As of the date this podcast was written, it was the #1 download on iTunes. True, the song isn’t ‘church-worthy’ but the Voice can be heard in some of this little tune about how the Holy Spirit sees us as perfect. Check it out…

“Look, I’m still around

Pretty pretty please, don’t you ever ever feel
Like you’re less than f*ckin’ perfect
Pretty pretty please, if you ever ever feel like you’re nothing
You’re f*ckin’ perfect to me!

You’re so mean, when you talk about yourself, you were wrong
Change the voices in your head, make them like you instead
So complicated, look happy, you’ll make it!
Filled with so much hatred…such a tired game.”

That was “F**kin’ Perfect” by Pink.

Perfect has to do with a standard that one measures against. There is only the One… and One is perfect.

Another Top 5 iTune download also has a nugget buried deep within it. It is about the Love of the Holy Spirit for us, but in this song, it is buried deep in “language”. It’s called “Grenade”. Take this one to church too? Maybe not, but the message is that the Holy Spirit loves us no matter what and to the limits of life.

“To give me all your love is all I ever asked,
Cause what you don’t understand is
I’d catch a grenade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I’d jump in front of a train for ya (yeah, yeah , yeah)
You know I’d do anything for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, oh
I would go through all this pain,
Take a bullet straight through my brain,
Yes, I would die for ya baby;”

That’s “Grenade” by Bruno Mars

Straight out of the New Testament, huh? You know, Jesus died for us?  My whole point here is that the Voice leading us back to heaven is available to all and in places some of the older folks would not ordinarily be listening. Suffice it to say, God speaks to all of us in ways that we can accept.

Yes, the songs often are meant by the singer and writer to be sung to another human being and in a relationship context. They probably did not mean to say what I am hearing. But, it is another example of the Holy Spirit taking a song that has issues and using it to help us on the journey back to our Source, our First and Only Relationship!

All songs used here were downloaded from iTunes – you can do the same to get the whole thing as you build your library of songs that have meaning for you!

Finding God, Hearing Heaven

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I never thought I would hear the Voice For God in lyrics by Madonna. Intriguingly, it is a song I have heard many times before, but never really heard it. God is Life. We are the “children” of Life. We are the ones who have turned our back on our Oneness with God and have the key to see again our true relationship with All that Is:

“Open your heart to me, baby.
I hold the lock and you hold the key.
Open your heart to me, darlin’,
I’ll give you love if you, you turn the key.

I think that you’re afraid to look in my eyes.
You look a little sad boy, I wonder why.
I follow you around but you can’t see.
You’re too wrapped up in yourself to notice,
So you choose to look the other way.
Well, I’ve got something to say:
Don’t try to run. Â I can keep up with you.
Nothing can stop me from trying, you’ve got to

Open your heart to me, baby.
I hold the lock and you hold the key.
Open your heart to me, darlin’,
I’ll give you love if you, you turn the key.”

Thank you, Madonna for sharing even more than perhaps you were aware of at the time.

Sometimes when I look at the headlines and listen to the folks on radio and TV as they share their concerns about the future of our world, it becomes clear to me that this world is not sustainable no matter what. It was created by Ego and our bodies are created to shut out our heavenly parent as much as possible. But what ego has meant as separation, the Holy Spirit uses to point the way back.

That is one of the many reasons I like music so much. It is greater than just the words alone. This is one of the ways the Holy Spirit turns something physical, like sound and music and maybe even the world, into a way to help us understand what needs to happen inside of us:

“Music speaks louder than words
It’s the only thing that the whole world listens to.
Music speaks louder than words,
When you sing, people understand.

Sometimes the love that you feel inside
Gets lost between your heart and your mind
And the words don’t really say the things you wanted them to.
But then you feel in someone’s song
What you’d been trying to say all along
And somehow with the magic of music the message comes through.

Music speaks louder than words
It’s the only thing that the whole world listens to.
Music speaks louder than words,
When you sing, people understand.”

(written by Howard Payne, Edgar Pease, and Michael Scarpiello)

That was Peter Paul & Mary in an evergreen tune that speaks a truth we all need to take into consideration.

You could say that words are ego stuff and you would right. Words are of their very nature part of a language, part of a culture, and are part of the apparent separation between us and God. That is not necessarily true of music and why it can add so much.

When you think about it, words often do get in the way, which is why we search for songs that remind us of the Voice for God.

Have you ever really understood a Buddhist or Hindu talk about God and spiritual experience… if they are using their native language?  Music transcends that lack of understanding.

Some songs remind us of our true relationship with God and each other… and it is the music that does much of the work.

From the world’s point of view, the choice for God is crazy and incomprehensible. But is it really? The choice is referred to in this oldie made new by Shiny Toy Guns about Major Tom. His is an astronaut close to achieving orbit around the earth, but then apparently decides to keep on going instead. He doesn’t respond at first to the frantic voices from Mission Control who are sure that something has gone wrong…

(From Major Tom (Coming Home):

Peter Schilling from 1983

Version by Shiny Toy Guns.)

“4, 3, 2, 1
Earth below us, drifting, falling
Floating, weightless, calling, calling, home.

Across the stratosphere
A final message, “Give my wife my love”,
Then nothing more.

Far beneath the ship, the world is mourning
They don’t realize, he’s alive.
No one understands but Major Tom sees:
Now the Light commands: “This is my home,
I’m coming home.”

Earth below us, drifting, falling
Floating, weightless, calling home
Earth below us, drifting, falling
Floating, weightless, coming home

Earth below us, drifting, falling
Floating, weightless, coming, coming home
Home.”

The sound of Home, where the heart is. Home is heaven. We can never really leave, and we can never completely forget. We can fall asleep and pretend that our temporal, temporary world is real and get all caught up in the thinking, the worrying, and trying to fix it. If we just remember that we are already there and just look past this temporary world and see our brothers and sisters as ourselves, as they really are.. Just like Jesus once said: “Love your neighbor as your self.”   Music helps us get there!

The full versions of all of these wonderful tunes can be downloaded from iTunes.com or Amazonmp3.com just as I did.

It’s Party Time!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

For many people, any time is a good time to have a party. The holidays are good, right? Just maybe some of our favorite ‘good-time’ songs are a reminder of what being in heaven feels like. You find the word heaven in a lot of songs and we talk about eating heavenly food, maybe divine dancing, or a wine to die for? Many really good parties combine eating, drinking, and dancing and The Voice seems to draw a comparison:

“In heaven there is no beer;
That’s why we drink it here.
And when we’re gone from here,
Our friends will be drinking all our beer.”
“In Heaven There Is No Beer” – Frankie Yankovic

Thank you, Frankie Yankovic – for a great reminder of what heaven feels like. When we need to forget our earthly cares, beer or other drinks seems to work for many:

“Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run
Zing boom tararrel, sing out a song of good cheer
Now’s the time to roll the barrel, for the gang’s all here.”

- “The Beer Barrel Polka” – The Sauerkrauts

Notice the Voice is very subtly stressing being together and being happy. This togetherness, this oneness we naturally feel is obscured by the separateness of bodies. People love to get closer to one another because they really miss the feeling of oneness. On Earth, the closest thing we have to Oneness is sex, which some people seek and think about nearly all of the time. Dancing is often the next best thing. Here’s Irene Cara from Flashdance:

“Well I hear the music, close my eyes, feel the rhythm
Wrap around, take a hold of my heart.

What a feeling, bein’s believin’
I can have it all, now I’m dancin’ for my life
Take your passion, and make it happen
Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life”.

I think I can feel the longing for God’s Love when I hear that wonderful song. Dancing, whether alone or with another is just a poor substitute for the Real Thing.

Another that song I can’t listen to without nearly coming to the tears is “I Hope You Dance”. Sometimes I feel lonesome for the Love of the Father and then have to remind myself it is me, not the Father who is forgetting.  I hear the Voice calling us to remember that Love is not a mistake, to keep the faith even if it looks like a mistake:

“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake
But it’s worth making.
Don’t let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter.
When you come close to selling out,
Reconsider.
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder
Where those years have gone)”

- “I Hope You Dance” – Lee Ann Womack

And then there’s this song by Exile that can be about sex, but it can also be an expression of the intensity of God’s Love for us… or us for God! Sometimes I feel like I’m in exile, too, but then I remember I have a choice.

“When I get home, babe, gonna light your fire.
All day I’ve been thinkin’ about you, babe:
You’re my one desire.

Gonna wrap my arms around you,
Hold you close to me.
Oh, babe I wanna taste your lips.
I wanna be your fantasy, yeah.

I don’t know what I’d do without you, babe,
Don’t know where I’d be.
You’re not just another lover,
No, you’re everything to me.

Ev’rytime I’m with you, baby
I can’t believe it’s true
When you’re layin’ in my arms
‘n’ you do the things you do

You can see it in my eyes
I can feel it in your touch
You don’t have to say a thing
Just let me show how much
Love you, need you, yeah.

I wanna kiss you all over
And over again.
I wanna kiss you all over

Till the night closes in.
Stay with me, lay with me,
Holding me, loving me, baby.
Here with me, near with me,
Feeling you close to me, baby.”

-“Kiss You All Over” – Exile

Wow! You can just feel the power of love. With sex, the boundaries remain and physical separateness prevails. Just imagine how much more intense and wonderful it would feel if we could be completely One? The attraction is definitely there, kind of like Walter Egan’s “Magnet and Steel”:

“You’re so close now,
I can’t let you go
And I can’t let go.
(With you I’m not shy) to show the way I feel
(With you I might try) my secrets to reveal
For you are a magnet and I am steel,
For you are a magnet and I am steel.
I can’t hope that I’ll hold you for long.

(Ooh) you’re a woman who’s lost to your song
(Ooh) but the love that I feel is so strong
(Ooh) and it can’t be wrong.”

- “Magnet and Steel” Walter Egan

The Truth is, at our core, we are all the One. Yes, we are just like the woman, lost to our song of separateness? Maybe it feels that way sometimes, but God is the magnet and we are steel. We just won’t feel right we are totally one.

Sometimes we confuse sex with real love, because sex is all about bodies. But real love is about way more than that. Bodies change and die, but true love never dies. It just is.

These songs reach us in emotional ways that books seldom do. I hope you can find songs that remind you of who you really are and where we really are. It transcends cultures and species, time and space. That’s why many of us like parties. They are full of joy and we do want to get on the bus to heaven!!

“We like to party
We like, we like to party
We like to party
We like, we like to party
We like to party
We like, we like to party
We like to party

I’ve got something to tell ya
I’ve got news for you
Gonna put some wheels in motion
Get ready ’cause we’re coming through
Hey now, hey now, hear what I say now
Happiness is just around the corner
Hey now, hey now, hear what I say now
We’ll be there for you

The Vengabus is coming
And everybody’s jumping
New York to San Fransisco
An intercity disco
The wheels of steel are turning
And traffic lights are burning
So if you like to party,
Get on and move your body!”

- “We Like To Party” – Vengaboys

Sometimes I believe the Voice For God does not use words. Sometimes it is the music alone that transports us to that place where we feel the Oneness with our Source. One favorite is the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel. My favorite version is this one by The Mannheim Steamroller with the sound turned all the way up!

(Mannheim Steamroller Music excerpt)

This song embodies, in music, the Power and Majesty of All-That-Is. I usually get chills running up and down my body! Just imagine Christmas EVERY DAY FOREVER!

Instrumental new age music, as a category, often relaxes me in much the same way. A good place to start is with “Buddha Nature” by Deuter….

(Deuter’s “Buddha Nature” Excerpt)

Deuters’s album by the same name is a classic.

Who can forget one of the earliest and best, Yanni’s “Flight of Fancy” from his “Reflections of Passion”

(Yanni’s “Flight of Fancy” excerpt)

My short list of artists where I hear the Voice For God… without words… would need to include  Enya. This is “River”.

(Enya’s “River” Excerpt)

How about “The Memory of Trees”?

(Enya’s “The Memory of Trees” excerpt)

Then there is what some call “Space Music”. This is the title excerpt from Jonn Serrie’s “And The Stars Go With You”:

(John Serrie’s “And The Stars Go With You”)

I hope you can hear the Voice For God, pretty much as these wonderful artists did. We will share the music of others before too long.

Remember: you create your own reality. Choose what you create wisely.

All of these songs are available on iTunes and would make an excellent addition to your collection of music from the Voice For God!  Special thanks to Ben Sherman for writing and reminding me that the Voice doesn’t always speak words!

Heaven

Many believe that Heaven is all around us, especially those in Love. And truly, if God is Love, then we are in heaven. The Moody Blues give voice to that thought in “Is This Heaven?”

“Walking home with you last night
You said the world is beautiful,
And how things look that way when you’re in love.
I love this world
When I’m in your arms.
Is this heaven?

I opened up the letter that the
Postman gave to me this morning.
Had to stop myself from shouting out:
“I love this world”!
When I’m in your arms,
Is this heaven?
When I’m in your arms,
Is this heaven?

I know that heaven waits
For those whose love is true.
I want to be there when
The age of love is come again.”

When we look around this world and things don’t seem right, we start to see that this world isn’t exactly heaven. If it isn’t heaven, then where is it? It was there when we were in our lover’s arms, or so we thought. With stormy weather, political arguments, spending money that even our great-grandchildren will have trouble paying… it doesn’t look great.  Add to that the changes in our personal relationships, it is natural to try to find heaven. Los Lonely Boys are looking for Heaven, and they know it isn’t really here…

“Save me from this prison,
Lord help me get away.
Cause only you can save me now
From this misery.
I’ve been lost in my own place
And I’m getting’ weary.
How far is heaven?

And I know I need to change
My ways of livin’.
How far is heaven,
Lord can you tell me?
I’ve been locked up way too long
In this crazy world, how far is heaven?
And I just keep on prayin’ Lord.
Just keep on livin’, how far is heaven?
Lord can you tell me, how far is heaven?
I just got to know how far, how far is heaven?
Lord can you tell me?

What if heaven isn’t far away at all? What if it is inside of ourselves? What would it be like if we could see heaven no matter what is going on in our body or in the world? If so, we could change our way of living, as Los Lonely Boys mention. Maybe we could start with looking at things differently, as Bobby McFerrin reminds us in this classic, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

“Here is a little song I wrote.
You might want to sing it note for note.
Don’t worry be happy.
In every life we have some trouble.
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happy……”

Bobby points out that worrying and being unhappy is a choice. We are not forced to be unhappy. The Course in Miracles says that we can either be right… or we can be happy. We do have a choice. When bad things appear to happen, it really doesn’t help to worry. What if God is telling us that making the choice to be happy is one of the first things we need to do to get on the right path, the path to heaven?

“This song I wrote,
I hope you learn it note for note,
Like good little children.
Don’t worry, be happy
Listen to what I say:
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry,
You make it double.
Don’t worry, be happy……
Be happy now!
Don’t worry, be happy.
Don’t worry, be happy.
Don’t worry, be happy.
Don’t worry, be happy.
Don’t worry, don’t worry,
Don’t do it, be happy.
Put a smile on your face.
Don’t bring everybody down like this.
Don’t worry, it will soon pass,
Whatever it is.
Don’t worry, be happy”

No matter what is going on in the world, what is more important is what is going on inside of us… not the world. If we are listening to the voice of ego, we get the emotional rollercoaster. We can shut off the radio, the TV, or the Internet. We don’t have to read the paper or listen to people who make us angry or upset. Some might consider this too drastic or too simple, but being in a negative frame of mind certainly isn’t any help either. When we don’t know what to think, perhaps we can be quiet, turn on music that relaxes us… and just listen for the Voice for God for ourselves! We just might find the guidance that works for us.

Find songs that help keep you happy and remind you of God’s message of love and forgiveness. The Voice is there, every day, all of the time… if we just listen for it. We do have a choice of what to listen to.

Thank you Moody Blues, Los Lonely Boys, and Bobby McFerrin for songs that are the Voice For God.

A Health Care Revolution

Have you ever wondered if you are hearing The Voice for God? The voice for ego appears to be quite vocal right now. If there has ever been any doubt as to what voice you are listening to, there are plenty of examples to help you decide. In deed, it has always been that way on this planet.

The voice for ego is there to keep us from remembering the Truth. When people look for their Good in doctors, lawyers who are politicians, government, and insurance companies, instead of God, you continue to be set up to make life far more difficult than it needs to be. People seem to forget that we create our own reality on many levels, especially when it comes to our health.

We seek the magic of food supplements, organic foods, prescription drugs, surgery, bombardments of radiation, stem cell injections, and a whole slew of other ‘therapies’. Massage, talk therapy, hypnosis, prayer, and personal divine intervention are other efforts where we look outside of ourselves for healing, so we don’t have to love God, ourselves or others around us, only those that we choose, those special ones.

Whether you believe only the government can fix health care by taking it over incrementally or whether you believe “the system” needs only a few tweaks, when you hear people attacking each other as either groups or individually, you are hearing the voice for ego. When you see a law with 1,017 pages that purports to “To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes” you are hearing the voice for ego. This is also true of nearly all federal laws.

Ego gets us involved in many, many things so we can forget that we have turned our back on our Source. A part of us that wants to be separate from God loves it! If God is Love, then attacking others for perceived ‘good reasons’ is evidence of that desire to be different from God.

Lets not forget though that even on this earthly level there is a lot of good. We are the Child of God, after all is said and done. We want good for all. If someone is sick, we should take care of them. We should also be responsible with the resources that we have. Responsible freedom is good: it has allowed us to begin the road back to Source, to reawaken to the Truth of our Being. Consensus is good.

Right now, there doesn’t appear to be much consensus, but there is talk of revolution, both in a good and a bad way. It reminds us of the Voice For God as we hear in this Beatles song from the Sixties:

“You say you want a revolution.
Well, you know
We all wanna to change the world.
You tell me that it’s evolution.
Well, you know
We all wanna to change the world.
But when you talk about destruction,
Don’t you know that you can count me out
You know it’s gonna be… all right… all right… all right.

Did you hear the part about it’s gonna be all right? See if these words are still appropriate:

“You say you got a real solution…
Well, you know
We’d all love to see the plan.
You ask me for a contribution.
Well, you know
We’re all doing what we can;
But if you want money
For people with minds that hate,
All I can tell is, brother you have to wait .”

Some people want such a complete and detailed change that it takes over a thousand pages. Not everybody has seen the plan and there is no consensus – just what Ego loves. Chaos.

Did you hear the part about how it’s gonna be all right?

Here comes the best part of the song :

“You say you’ll change the constitution.
Well, you know
We all want to change your head.
You tell me it’s the institution…
Well, you know
You better free your mind instead.”

Free your mind. What a novel idea. Listen for the Voice for God. If it’s about love and consensus, it probably is of God, and will free your mind from the down and dirty hate and name-calling that leads people to compare each other to the Nazi’s and refuse to listen.

Reminds me of the words that have always made me feel better from a Group Called Smith: Take A Look Around:

“Too many people talking,
In too many different ways:
Looks like the politician’s
Got it sewn up today.

But a hundred years from now,
Where are they gonna be?
So whatever’s making you sad today
Won’t matter when you leave.

Take a good look around you,
Don’t let the world bring you down.
Take a look at yourself,
Let a smile replace a frown.

Trouble is something we got too much of,
Tryin’ to find something new.
Rivers and rainbows, God’s creations
Out there waiting for you.”

In the analog age, voices could be hear on the radio, but it might be unclear and filled with static. Now, in the digital age, you either hear a voice well or not at all. It all depends on what you WANT to listen to. If the voice you are listening to is about how people are liars, cheaters, socialists, greedy, or any other derogatory term, it is the voice for ego. If what you are listening is about Love, Forgiveness, and helping others with what you have, it is the Voice For God. The answer is not government, it is in God.

Nothing good will come without Love being intimately involved. The fear that drives all sides of the debate to full frontal attacks, keeps us from realizing that if we do take a look around, we will see people that need LOVE, not an argument.

Things only work when we listen to the Voice For God. Even if it looks like the world is going to Hell in a hand basket, that doesn’t mean that we have to go along. If the Voice For God leads you to take responsible action, go for it!

“Get up on your feet, get ‘em to move,
Move ‘em on down the line.
Let your love go for everybody.
Don’t you think it’s about time?

Take a look around you,
Don’t let the world bring you down.
Take a look around you,
Let a smile replace a frown.”

Thanks to the Beatles that everyone knows about… and Smith, whose music is hard to find. Check iTunes for downloads.
